At Art Experts, we embrace Artificial Intelligence as a precision tool that enhances our authentication process—never as a replacement for human expertise. AI performs certain analytical tasks with extraordinary speed and accuracy, yet it operates strictly within defined, verifiable limits.
AI is exceptionally effective in two key areas:
Information Discovery: When relevant data, documentation, or references exist online, AI identifies and organizes them instantly, far faster than manual research.
Quantitative Analysis: AI accurately measures objective properties allowing for detailed comparisons and statistics.
In both cases, AI handles the technical groundwork, enabling our specialists to focus on the critical human dimensions of authentication: artistic merit, technical proficiency, biographical context, unique characteristics, human significance, connoisseurship, and interpretation.
Much of the world’s art-historical knowledge still resides in archives, libraries, and private collections—resources inaccessible to AI. For these, our researchers continue the traditional, hands-on work of examining documents, verifying provenance, and evaluating materials.
Just as importantly, we never use AI to guess or form opinions. An electronic system cannot interpret meaning or exercise judgment. When AI systems are prompted to speculate, they fabricate answers—a phenomenon known as “hallucination.” At Art Experts, AI is never used in this way.
Our AI operates under strict human supervision. It contributes data, patterns, and metrics that strengthen the evidentiary base of every authentication, but it never determines the final outcome. Every conclusion is made by qualified experts, informed by all available evidence—technical, historical, and digital.
When we certify an artwork as authentic, it’s not because AI has calculated a probability. It’s because our human experts have reached a definitive conclusion backed by verifiable facts.
Because AI is an integral part of our multidisciplinary authentication process, we do not charge separately for AI services. They are included in every evaluation as part of our commitment to accuracy, efficiency, and transparency.
