Died in 1690, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China, aged 57.

He spent most of his life in China, particularly in the cities of Wuzhou, Hangzhou, and Suzhou, where he worked as a scholar and artist during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. He was part of the "Four Masters of the Early Qing," a group of painters who helped redefine Chinese painting in the wake of the Ming dynasty’s collapse. Yun Shouping also briefly lived in Beijing during his youth, studying and gaining recognition before returning to the southern regions of China.

He typically painted flowers, birds, and landscapes, with a particular focus on flower-and-bird paintings, which became his signature genre. His works often depict delicate, richly detailed flowers—such as chrysanthemums, peonies, and lotuses—paired with birds, insects, or small creatures. Yun Shouping also occasionally painted landscapes, though his primary focus was on floral and faunal subjects.
