Typical style:

He is renowned for his spontaneous, intuitive figurative paintings. His works interact with art history, in particular with traditional Chinese painting and the expressionism of Chaim Soutine and Vincent Van Gogh.

His figurative, naive style employs stylized forms, realized with expressive brushstrokes that are sometimes visible and apparent. The pictorial material is applied in thick layers, both in the form of broad flat areas of paint and networks of dots and lines.

The colors are primary, unblended, and non-realistic, and his palette is dominated by intense blues, oranges, greens and reds. There is no sense of depth conveyed in his works, which in that sense can be reminiscent of illustrations. The cropping of his compositions rarely leaves much space for the horizon, which further accentuates the impression of 2-dimensionnality.
