She spent her whole life in France.

From 1956 onwards, she worked extensively in collaboration with her husband, François-Xavier Lalanne.

Typical Subject Matter:

She is best known for her twofold works: at once both sculpture and furniture. She is also renowned for her jewellery. She drew almost all of her inspiration from fauna and flora, including her typical motif of crocodile as well as leaves of gingko and lotus, apples, cabbage, among all vegetal motifs she borrowed from nature. Of these motifs she made lighting, desks, cutlery sets, benches, mirrors or cages decorated with animals or leaves.

Typical Style:

Her style is realistic, very close to nature. As such, she typically reproduced textures found in nature, such as the skin of crocodiles, the striation of leaves and the relief of branches. She is best known for her almost fantastical sculptures, which combine highly realistic elements from two different living creatures - animals and plants - in a hybrid fashion. She made both monumental pieces of furniture such as 2 meters high mirrors, as well as small pieces of jewellery or objects. Among other things, she produced an important number of mirrors, recognizable for the ornamentation around their frame, which refers to branches, foliage and brambles.

She mostly worked in bronze, gilded or patinated. For her objects, she also used gold, silver, copper, or brass.
